Information for Press and Public
Inquests are generally held in open court where members of the public and press have the right to attend. There will generally be space available in the courtroom for press and public.
Coroner's Officers will not be able give out any information about a deceased person in advance of an Inquest, except to confirm whether an Inquest has been opened, when the Inquest is listed and the time of a planned hearing.
Media requests for copies of documents relied upon during an inquest should be made to the Coroner concerned at the beginning or end of the daily court session. The preferable approach is to initially raise the matter with the court usher or coroner's officer who will then notify the Coroner that you wish to make such a request.
All press enquiries can be directed, in the first instance, to the Coroner's Officer team at coroners@cheshire.police.uk.
